Oh the world of backpacks. With so many to choose from it can be a very confusing time trying to find the backpack you want. Here is a few tips for choosing your hunting pack!
1. Figure out what you will be doing with the said pack. Will you be day hunting and just utilizing truck camps? Will you be day hunting with a few small 2-3 day backpack hunts through the year? Or will you be doing multiple 5 plus day backpack hunts a year?
2. Find what fits with your body the best. The more comfortable you are, the longer and farther you can go. And your packout abilities will sky rocket with a comfortable pack that is fit for you. Yes I said fit, a lot of packs now days have it to where you can adjust the length of the suspension system (shoulder straps, waist belt, etc) so it can fit your body perfect no matter your height.
3. You’ll also need to figure out the size pack (cubic inches) that will fit your needs!
Referring back to question number 1, a solid pack for day hunting and truck camps will be sitting at around 2000 cubic inches. For day hunts with a few 2-3 day backpack hunts through the year, I would recommend around 4000 cubic inches just to stay comfortable so your pack isn’t filled to the brim. And multiple 5 plus day backpack hunts a year, 6000 cubic inches and up!
Also, when it comes to companies, choose what best fits with you.
